The ultimate guide to mindful and beautiful kitchen design

Sunset, Jan/Feb 2020 issue

Sustainable design practices are very close to my heart, so I wrote an article on how to sustainably design or remodel a kitchen without sacrificing an inch of style. From over 40 sourced tiles to profiles and tips from the industry's pros (along with a resource guide!), I covered everything you need to know when it comes to beautiful and sustainable kitchen design.

You can't ride the subway or listen to a podcast without being subjected to an ad about luxury, factory direct bedding. I broke down all the best brands to buy, and which material is right for you.

How to incorporate color into your kitchen remodel or design

Sunset, June/July 2020 issue

As much as I love a serene white kitchen lined with subway tile, the past two decades of kitchen design have leaned toward one too many shades of gray: ash, pewter, charcoal, and slate dominated cabinets and walls with a dose of white or wood thrown in here and there. In the last year or so the pendulum has swung decidedly more vibrant. Thankfully, incorporating color into your kitchen can be as simple as placing a dusty pink stand mixer center stage on your countertop or as advanced as a complete kitchen renovation with cabinets emblazoned kelly green. I tapped several experts in the field to share advice on how to make the leap from neutral to colorful, and you’ll be wowed by how easy it is.

Emerging Designers of the West 2020

Sunset, March/April 2020 issue

Sunset’s first annual Emerging Designers of the West was a celebration of the people pushing design forward in architecture, crafts, furniture, and home decor. For well over a century, Sunset has given readers the freshest and most inspiring home design ideas: it covered the birth and rebirth of mid-century modernism, tracked color trends, touted tiny homes, and predicted prefab. This award is the evolution of that mission, and a way to honor the people who are changing the way we live today.

The 2019 Sunset Idea House

Sunset, Jan/Feb 2020 issue

Once a year for over 20 years, Sunset magazine’s home team has curated a modern house filled with ideas for the western home. My job as Senior Home Editor was to find an incredible interior design firm to partner with the home's developer so that it could be shot for editorial and host a slew of events, followed by a feature spread in the magazine written by me. The attached media is my feature article on the house, which was a palatial contemporary abode nestled into the Santa Monica Canyon.

101 Things to Love About San Francisco

Curbed, Originally published on February 14, 2017

Tony Bennett famously explained how he left his heart in San Francisco. And he gives a few solid reasons why—the fog, the cable cars, being high on a hill. The usual. But there are so many more reasons why people love the city high above the blue and windy sea—places and experiences one doesn’t normally think of since they’re regular occurrences or daily sights. Let’s take a look at what makes heart strings zing in San Francisco.
